Easy Flats (sometimes called pre-flats) are the modern take on old-fashioned square nappies — just as effective, but softer, easier to fold, and the stretch gives a much better fit.
These are perfect for newborns and later for night use or as inserts, so you are not having to buy a separate set of nappies for the newborn stage. They can be used on their own or have additional inserts folded into the middle.
Note: These nappies need to be fixed with pins or snappis and do not have a waterproof outer, so need to be used with either a pocket shell, a PUL cover, or wool cover. These work with OSFM pocket shells as covers even before Bub is big enough to use OSFMs with inserts, so unless Bub is smaller than average you do not need to buy separate newborn-specific nappies.
I recommend using your existing pocket nappy shells for small babies or daytime use, and a plus size pocket shell for night when the nappy is boosted — especially on babies over about 8 or 9kgs (because they are wider between the legs, which allows for pretty much endless boosting without compromising the fit around the legs).
